Safety is our top priority. We all know cats are not dogs. Solo grooming, or working alone, works well for dogs, but the practice is super risky for cats. A solo groomer only has two hands, one of those hands holds the cat and the other hand holds a grooming tool. A one-handed hold on a cat creates a pivot point that allows a cat to twist, bend, contort, leverage, and thrash which is very hard on a cat's body, even healthy cats. Solo grooming is simply unkind to cats, and often creates an environment perfect for injury to both cat and groomer. Cats require a specialized grooming process designed with cat behaviors in mind, so we threw out the dog grooming model and built our cat grooming process from scratch. At Cats in the City team grooming is our standard, and only team grooming. Team grooming provides a cat the support it needs during grooming procedures to feel safe and secure, which is gentler on a cat and allows a skilled handler to use postures and positions that decrease cat participation. Reducing cat participation allows a wider audience of cats to be successful with grooming. Team grooming allows for reliably safe grooming outcomes for any cat, especially aging cats and cats living with vision or hearing impairments, mobility issues, and heart conditions. Cats in the City is led by Neuroscientist and animal behaviorist, Daniel Lioyryan, Ph.D.
