A Lucky Walking Tour in Johor Bahru – Walking When the Rain Stops, Resting When It Falls Johor Bahru citytour, Jalan Wong Ah Fook, JB, Johor, Malaysia - part 1 Today's exploration was full of surprises! At 7 AM, I met with Abel Nelson Nang, the Director of Marketing at SKS Hospitality Group, at the entrance of Fives Hotel to begin an exciting walking tour of Johor Bahru city. 🍀 A Lucky Adventure with Perfect Weather It was drizzling before we started, but just as we stepped onto the Jalan Wong Ah Fook pedestrian street, the rain magically stopped! We walked past historic buildings on the right and admired a beautifully landscaped artificial river filled with fish, adding life to the cityscape. Continuing forward, we arrived at Johor Bahru City Square shopping mall. Further along, we spotted the largest Sikh temple (Gurdwara Sahib Sikh Temple) in downtown JB, an Indian temple, and the historic Broadway Theatre building. Not far from there stood the grand Bangunan Sultan Ibrahim, and finally, we reached the real Sungai Segget. 📍 Breakfast at a Heritage Café At the end of Jalan Wong Ah Fook, we took a quick photo at the famous “Wong Ah Fook” & “Sungai Segget” sign as a memento of our visit. Then, we turned into Jalan Tan Hiok Nee, at the junction of Jalan Trus, arrived at the well-known Kin Hua Coffee Shop for breakfast. ☕ A Classic Johor Bahru Breakfast: A cup of rich, aromatic coffee + two half-boiled eggs + two slices of charcoal-toasted bread + two pieces of Chwee Kueh (steamed rice cakes)—simple yet satisfying! As soon as we sat down to enjoy our meal, it started raining again, as if the weather had perfectly aligned with our schedule. By the time we finished breakfast, the rain had slowed, and after a short wait, it stopped completely. ⏳ Perfect Timing Throughout the Trip We then continued walking along Jalan Dhoby, back onto Jalan Trus, passing by numerous Indian shops, Kotaraya Shopping Mall, the Sikh Temple, the Johor Old Chinese Temple, and the Persada International Convention Centre. Finally, we returned to our hotel just as it started raining again—what perfect timing! 📍 This walking tour was a fantastic way to explore the history and culture of Johor Bahru, enjoy delicious local food, and witness an incredible coincidence with the weather!
