For years, I will openly admit that I never quite understood why the MTA kept the skip stop pattern on the (J) Line because it proved to be a failure on the (1) Line when the (9) Train was around until 2005. But with this roundtrip, it makes a lot of sense as to why this skip stop pattern works, and not the pattern on the (1). The (1) goes through a lot of busy neighborhoods and the (J) kind of goes through some rather quiet neighborhoods like Cypress Hills and Woodhaven as it’s the only route to serve those neighborhoods directly. However, I have noticed that the skip stop actually made getting to Jamaica Center a little faster and it made sense in terms of alleviating passenger volume on the (E) Line for passengers wanting to get to JFK Airport from Manhattan. So my thoughts on this run were that it was fun and I can’t wait to cover the skip stop pattern on the (J) Train soon.
