Dan Neuspiel, March 13, 2019 Prior to the advent of fascism in 1933, Germany’s medical profession was considered the most prominent in the world, a center of great discoveries. Yet German doctors joined the Nazi party in greater relative numbers than any other profession, and Nazi genocidal programs were led by physicians. Many of these programs were modeled after earlier initiatives in the US. Dr. Dan Neuspiel is a retired pediatrician and full time resident of SMA. His career was devoted to serving underserved, primarily immigrant children and their families in New York and North Carolina. He has participated in antiracist movements for over 50 years and is the child of an immigrant and holocaust survivor. Dan has been on the faculty of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and is professor emeritus of pediatrics at Atrium Health.
