Welcome to the second Free Play Extended Play, featuring a long (6+ hours) game played through from start to finish. This is a full playthrough of the arcade version of "Gauntlet Dark Legacy". Released in arcades in 2000 by Midway, Gauntlet Dark Legacy is an action RPG for up to 4 players and is a sequel/remake of 1999's "Gauntlet Legends". After Atari's arcade division, Atari Games, released the prior game, Midway acquired them and released this game after renaiming them Midway Games West. The plot is the same as Legends but reveals the mage who summoned Skorne is named Garm and expands the plot to include Garm. The gameplay is the same as in Gauntlet Legends but with a few notable changes which are summarized below: There are 8 realms instead of 4, plus an additional realm after Skorne is defeated. The original 4 realms are mostly the same as in Legends but with slight differences in stage layouts. There are 13 Rune Stones total instead of 12. You must find the first 12 to reach the Underworld (final area of Legends) and then find the 13th after that to complete the game. There are 8 characters you can choose from at the start with a hidden alternate for each (unlocked by reaching level 10 experience with the base character) for a total of 16 playable. This increases the roster from the original 4. Legend Items were added. There is one such item in each realm except at the end of the game, which if found will make that realm's boss battle easier. These are not required to defeat bosses. One new special item-Turbo Boost. It instantly fully charges your Turbo gauge. Obviously wasted if picked up with full Turbo. You can block attacks, which reduces damage taken if done properly. It drains your Turbo gauge. Death drains EXP instead of health. That means it is actually possible to LOSE a level if you let a Death fully drain EXP before disappearing! Anti-Death Power will give you EXP instead of health and now lasts based on time and not ending after fully draining a Death. Successfully fully draining a Death virtually guarantees you gain a level. Instead of permanent bonuses/enhancements every 25 levels, they now come every 10 levels and at the end of stages when achieved. So instead of getting your permanent Familiar at level 25, it now comes at level 30. There are at least 9 new secret characters available using the right initials/password combo AND the correct color/player choice on the machine (Player 1-Yellow, Player 2-Blue, Player 3-Red, Player 4-Green). The Pojo code from Gauntlet Legends also works for any color. This playthrough covers about 99% of the game in terms of exploring all areas and finding all items/secrets-it does not include one of the 9 Secret/Treasure Rooms (optional). I missed the one in the Desert realm (in the Pyramid stage, very hard to get to). But it does show all Rune Stones and Legend Items. For more about gameplay, please see the description in the "Gauntlet Legends" video: • Gauntlet Legends (Arcade) Full Playthrough This was the final Gauntlet game to be released in arcades. The game was released for the PlayStation 2 in 2001, then for the Xbox & GameCube in 2002. The console versions greatly expand on the arcade version with lots of additional content.
