In her U.S. solo exhibition debut, HUSH, presented by the Institute of Contemporary Art San Diego, Eisma invites us into her vibrant, dreamlike universe—a healing space woven from personal trauma, mythology, and pure imagination. Join accomplished art book author and designer Mark Murphy of Murphy Design and explore how Afra transforms traditional craft techniques into immersive installations filled with colorful weavings, stuffed sculptures, and handmade ceramics. These “otherworldly safe spaces” are where aliens, insects, and humans gather, blending fantasy and emotion into a unique visual language of healing through feeling. Experience Afra Eisma’s world as she transforms ICA’s Balboa Park location in San Diego into an “otherworldly safe space” where the viewer may forget the past for a brief moment while submerging themselves into a colorful world of make-believe.
