Mirror Reflection and Shadows in Portrait Painting

Hard to believe, but I just passed my 3 year anniversary of painting - I attempted my first portrait oil painting in September 2022. I feel like I've come a long way in terms of the quality of these portraits and just generally getting the paint brush to put what my brain wants onto paper. In this video, I discuss a couple of concepts I've tried a few times that haven't yet been implemented in a way I would call successful. One is a subject reflecting in a mirror, which I've tried quite a few times...I've often had issues getting the subject and reflection to look like the same person. Another concept is laying down shadows in a way that makes sense, which I think is deceptively difficult. The painting on screen is one I think finally incorporates both concepts in a successful way, which is kind of a nice way to celebrate my third year painting anniversary. This is my 260th overall, of a lady turning away from her mirror's reflection. I had some difficulty matching some of the angles and planes within the painting (the mirror, tiles, and sink angles didn't make sense), but I was able to fix it towards the end.
