Dr Eugénie Hunsicker The first half of this talk will give some background on Dr Hunsicker’s life, career and experiences working in STEM diversity. The second half will talk about what research in business, philosophy, cognitive science and information science tell us about the benefits of diversity and the mechanisms of inequality. The third half (!) of the talk will lay out some proposal for and challenges to the community to improve both our work and our culture. Biography: Dr Eugenie Hunsicker is a mathematician and applied statistician at Loughborough University. Her research interests include topology, high dimensional statistics, partial differential equations, systems engineering, chemometrics and machine learning. Dr Hunsicker is a UK leader in diversity in STEMM. Her roles include Director for Equality and Diversity for the School of Science at Loughborough University, Chair of the London Mathematical Society Women in Mathematics Committee, Deputy Chair of the Athena Forum, Member of the STEMM-Disability Advisory Committee and a committee member for the new Women in Data Science and Statistics SIG at the RSS. This year, she was the research lead for the recent external analysis of the AdvanceHE Athena Swan framework. In 2018, she was awarded a Suffrage Science award for her work on gender diversity in mathematics. In her spare time, when she is not hanging out with her husband and three hungry teenage sons as well as her pet chihuahua and continental giant rabbit, she plays bluegrass fiddle.
