Surveying buildings with point cloud tools has become a quick and efficient process. However, the real challenge lies in transforming this data into a BIM building model. ARCHLine.XP uses a hybrid approach algorithm to detect walls and floors in a point cloud. The result is a drastic reduction in post-processing time and cost. Certain constraints apply to the relationship of the objects, the floor must be horizontal and the wall must be vertical. The process consists of three steps: 1. Precise level setting on the point cloud 2. Detection of vertical surfaces defining the building facade, 3. Definition of the main points of the new architectural element, e.g. the beginning and endpoint of the wall. The accuracy of the method depends on the designer, and the method can also be applied to multi-story buildings. The result is a parametric solid modell what is needed to generate BIM.
