The Ancient Future Guitar and Tabla Duet performs "Yearning for the Wind," a composition by Matthew Montfort based on Rag Kalyan and set in matta tal, a nine beat rhythm cycle divided 4, 2, and 3. The last three beats are divided into two sets of one and a half beats. Ancient Future is the world's longest running musical ensemble dedicated to world fusion music. The band's leader, Matthew Montfort, is a pioneer of the scalloped fretboard guitar, an instrument combining aspects of the steel string guitar and South Indian vina, who is recognized by DigitalDreamDoor as one of the world's 100 Greatest Acoustic Guitarists. Vishal Nagar is a tabla virtuoso who is regarded as one of the best of his generation.
