THE WOLF HUNTERZ Reactions THE WOLF HUNTERZ Reaction To Smashing Pumpkins - Starla live at Metro Theatre Chicago 1993 • Smashing Pumpkins - Starla live at Metro T... Smashing Pumpkins playing Starla live at the Chicago Metro Theatre in 1993 on their Siamese Dream launch shows - from the DVD in the deluxe reissued Siamese Dream set (2011). This performance kicks ass, and it's interesting seeing Billy's interaction with the crowd before the song, a blend of awkwardness and confidence. He plays an awesome guitar solo...I've never seen someone work the pickup selector switch as much. Make sure you pick up the CD/DVD, it's great! Hi Travis and Suzy, I'm really happy you both liked the Smashing pumpkins marathon we did. As you saw, they are a great band with amazing musicians. You mentioned that you would like to do "all sides" of Smashing pumpkins. Well, there are (5) sides to them we will be exploring: extremely heavy (which we have done some of their tracks), Radio and MTV "hits", soft and mellow songs, Covers (they do some amazing covers), and deep, deep cuts. Also, I wanted to revisit Gossamer a little before we move on. As you saw with that 30 minute performance, the musicianship is just off the charts incredible. I neglected to mention that they would play this track as the final song of their set; 2.5 hours later. This was really a special treat for the fans that chose to stay around to the very end. Also Travis and Suzy, I'm so glad you picked up on the precision and timing of Jimmy Chamberlain's drumming. It's true that he doesn't use "in-ears", as he has said that he likes to play based on feeling. Although he is a rock drummer, he has extensively studied the great jazz drummers, and has adopted a swing style that incorporates jazz with rock. That is why his timing and precision is so great. This song, "starla", like "Drown", is both a heavy and mellow song that I think you're going to really like. Considered more of a deep cut, this is a huge fan favorite, and Is always a huge highlight when they play it live. As always, hope you like this song, and travis, let's add this to the smashing pumpkins playlist. Take care
