Evaluation & Treatment of Patients with a Small Posterior Cranial Fossa Presented by Dr. John Heiss for the American Syringomyelia & Chiari Alliance Project's 36th Annual Conference This talk will review the typical signs and symptoms of Chiari I and its variant, Chiari 0 malformation. It will show how Chiari I and Chiari 0 malformations are associated with incomplete bone development, reduced volume and height of the posterior fossa, and compression of the cerebellar tonsils, brainstem, and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pathways at the foramen magnum. Finally, the talk will describe treatment options. Dr. John D. Heiss, is a Senior Clinician, the Head of the Clinical Unit of the Surgical Neurology Branch, and Program Director of the Neurological Surgery Residency Training Program at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland.
