Aesops Fables Explained

/ farnooshstc      / @stoicerstick   Aesop's Fables Explained Transcript: Most people probably don’t know who Aesop was or how he lived, but I'm sure you have heard some of his fables, his most famous probably being that of the hare and the tortoise, fun little stories with a good lesson in morality at the end, WRONG. I'm here to tell you that the morals of each of these stories are often stupid or wrong, and I'm going to be fixing them. I'll quickly read the story, then the so-called moral of the story,y and then give you the actual moral of the story. Lets start with a simple one and that is the story of the tortoise and the hare. A Hare was making fun of the Tortoise one day for being so slow. "Do you ever get anywhere?" he asked with a mocking laugh. "Yes," replied the Tortoise, "and I get there sooner than you think. I'll run you a race and prove it." The Hare was much amused at the idea of running a race with the Tortoise, but for the fun of the thing, he agreed. So the Fox, who had consented to act as judge, marked the distance and started the runners off. The Hare was soon far out of sight, and to make the Tortoise feel very deeply how ridiculous it was for him to try a race with a Hare, he lay down beside the course to take a nap until the Tortoise should catch up. The Tortoise, meanwhile, kept going slowly but steadily, and, after a time, passed the place where the Hare was sleeping. But the Hare slept on very peacefully, and when at last he did wake up, the Tortoise was near the goal. The Hare now ran his swiftest, but he could not overtake the Tortoise in time. And the moral for this story is that The race is not always to the swift., which is obviously dumb, this was the most blatant case of match fixing I have ever seen, the fact that the ref allowed this to happen just means that he was in on it, rumour has it that there was a particularly large bet on the tortoise and with the 900/1 odds that they were giving, it is no coincidence that the town bookie went under and both the hare and tortoise suspiciously became rich overnight. Im a hare and tortoise truther, and the truth will come out. These conniving little freaks made me lose thousands on my hare bet and I want my money back. “ tHe rACe iS nOt aLWaYs…” No, the hare and tortoise’s real moral is, always match-fix races that have ludicrous odds. The next fable that we have is the boy who cried wolf. There was once a boy who loved to play tricks. The people of the village grew so tired of his antics that they sent him to guard the sheep. ‘Go on, up the hill by yourself and think about the misery you’ve caused us.’ It was so boring up there, away from everything. Ah! He had an idea. He cupped his hands to his mouth. ‘Wolf! Wolf!’ The people came running. The boy laughed. A few days later: ‘Wolf! Wolf!’ Again, the people came. How the boy laughed! When they had gone, he thought, ‘I’ll leave it a while before I try that trick again.’ The very next day, out of the forest, his jaws dripping, slunk a wolf. ‘Wolf! Wolf!’ cried the boy. ‘Wolf!’ Down in the village, the people looked at one another, shook their head,s and said, ‘He must think we’re idiots.’ And, at the end of the day, when he did not return, they went in search of him. They found neither boy nor sheep - just wool and blood and bones. The moral of this fable is that Liars are not believed, even when telling the truth. No the real moral of this story is don’t send an idiot to do an important job, imagine you are a sheep farmer you pay your taxes on time and you entrust your sheep to the village barn, “ I sure hope the village keeps these safe because these sheep are my entire livelihood”, only to find out that not only did they send a dumbass child to be lookout for the villages animals, but that they ignored his pleas for help because they couldn’t be arsed to walk up a hill more than 2 times. Now, the village's animals have all been killed, and they’ve lost a child. If this was a true story, the village has greater problems than just mischievous children; the villagers are all idiots. The boy who cried wolf’s real moral is don’t send idiots on important jobs, or even just “a small risk of calamity always outweighs the guaranteed discomfort of inconvenience”. The next fable that we are going to be looking at is the fox and the grapes. A Fox one day spied a beautiful bunch of ripe grapes hanging from a vine trained along the branches of a tree. The grapes seemed ready to burst with juice, and the Fox's mouth watered as he gazed longingly at them. The bunch hung from a high branch, and the Fox had to jump for it. The first time he jumped he missed it by a long way. So he walked off a short distance and took a running leap at it, only to fall short once more. Again and again he tried, but in vain. Now he sat down and looked at the grapes in disgust.
