The Aiki Dojo 2 Minute Technique - Tenshin or Moving Back Ken Watanabe Sensei, Aikido 6th Dan, Iaido 5th Dan explains the basic movement of tenshin (転身) or “Moving backwards.” People often times think of tenshin as a form of retreat or shying away from an attack. However, regardless of moving forward or backwards, we should think about movement as changing position in reference to any attack. When we move, we move primarily to gain a more advantageous position on our attacker and their attack. Also, in all Aikido technique, we should always be projecting our consciousness or focus forward and moving backwards is no exception. Let us know if you want us to do a full length video on this or any other topic. Sometimes there's no time to read a lengthy message or watch a long documentary. So we've created these quick and easy 2 minute techniques to help you improve your Aikido technique and knowledge. Keep an eye out for them every Wednesday. Enjoy!
