Difficulty: Strenuous due to distance, elevation gain & terrain Distance: 11 miles Hike style: out and back Elevation Gain ≈ 2800’ Max elevation: 6,593’ Highlights: amazing views, high elevation spruce-fir forest, variety of interesting trail features - Arch Rock at mile 1.4, Inspiration Point at mile 2, Alum Cave Bluff at mile 2.3, LeConte Lodge at mile 5. Details: I took my son Jackson to Mt. LeConte for the first time! This was my 25th summit of LeConte, and my 3rd time camping on the mountain. We hiked Alum Cave trail up and back, with an overnight stay in the shelter in between. Unfortunately, clouds blew in during the evening, so we did not get to see sunset or sunrise. We did have a bear come into camp around 7 pm, so that was an interesting experience. Overall, we had a great trip and Jackson loved the experience. We will certainly be going back for another overnight stay soon! This channel is dedicated to videos of hiking adventures in and around Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the Appalachian mountains of East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Each video will provide a highlight reel of what you can expect to see along the hike, as well as some detailed trail information provided in the video description. I have hiked all trails in GSMNP, joining the 900 mile club in fall of 2024. In addition to day hiking, I enjoy camping, backpacking, and off trail hiking in and around GSMNP.
