National Academy of Sciences Richard Lounsbery Lecture: An Evening with Dr. Feng Zhang

This year, the Museum of Science is honored to partner with the National Academy of Sciences to host a special evening of lecture and conversation celebrating awardee Dr. Feng Zhang’s groundbreaking achievements, centering on his current work exploring biological diversity. Join us for this illuminating evening with one of the world’s greatest scientific minds. Special pre-program reception for all attendees begins at 5:30 pm, followed by Dr. Zhang’s lecture at 6:30 pm. In conversation with Insoo Hyun, director of the Museum's Center for Life Sciences. The Richard Lounsbery Award is given by the National Academy of Sciences and the French Académie des Sciences to recognize extraordinary scientific achievement in biology and medicine. In addition to honoring scientific excellence, the award is intended to stimulate research and encourage reciprocal scientific exchanges between the United States and France. Dr. Feng Zhang is a molecular biologist focused on improving human health. Current research in the Zhang laboratory is centered on discovering and characterizing novel biological systems and developing them into molecular tools and therapies to study and treat human disease. Dr. Zhang is a core member of the Broad Institute, an Investigator at the McGovern Institute for Brain Research, the James and Patricia Poitras Professor of Neuroscience at MIT, and a Howard Hughes Medical Investigator. Insoo Hyun, PhD, is the inaugural director of the Museum’s Center for Life Sciences. His intellectual interests transcend stem cell ethics and policy to include emerging technologies in the life sciences and new strategies for community engagement in bioengineering. Since 2005, Dr. Hyun has been heavily involved with the International Society for Stem Cell Research (ISSCR), helping draft its international research guidelines and serving twice as the chair of the ISSCR Ethics Committee. Dr. Hyun is also a member of NExTRAC, a federal advisory committee that provides recommendations to the NIH Director and a public forum for the discussion of the scientific, safety, and ethical issues associated with emerging biotechnologies.
