In Celtic folklore, hearing the howls of the Cwn Annun meant your imminent death. These were the hounds of the otherworld lead by Gwyn Ap Nudd on the wild hunt collecting the souls of those who were soon to be departed. Both Arawn (God of the Otherworld in the first branch of the Mabinogion) and Gwyn Ap Nudd (Gwyn Son Of Nudd translated to White Son of Mist) are said to lead the Cwn Annun. They are a shining white in colour with sparkling red tipped years a shure sign of animals from the otherworld. As they approached their growls and howling would grow softer and softer as you drifted closer and closer into the arms of death.
