Compost holds more moisture than dirt, adds microbes, and improves the composition of your soil. Compost can be expensive, but you don't need to go out and buy bags! I have three sections at different stages of the process, so I always have some ready and more on the way! 4:44 Saving Seeds Seeds are so awesome and what got me into gardening! A lot of plants will give you hundreds of seeds so it's way more than you'll ever need for the next season. Share with friends! Some of the easiest plants to save seeds from are dry-seeded crops (flowers, herbs, greens, etc. as opposed to something like tomatoes). There are a ton of plants you can do this with, such as many herbs, celery, garlic, green onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes, and so on. You can trim the plant down and maybe stick it in water. It might not smell nearly as nice as your echinacea tea, but this stuff is good. Making your own tea is a great way to give plants a boost. It doesn't often have a ton of nutrients like a fertilizer does, but it's more of a pro-biotic.
