This video describes the Macdonald Triad. The Macdonald Triad is a theory developed in the 1960s that proposed a model for predicting violent behavior in adults by watching out for specific warning signs in childhood. The specific behaviors in childhood are bedwetting (after age 5), arson, and torturing small animals. Some later research supported the Macdonald Triad by indicating the factors predicted violent behavior in adults. Further research, however, found the factors had little association with violence. All three factors are associated with child abuse. Child abuse has an association with violent behavior as an adult, which supports the theory to a degree. The Macdonald Triad is largely not accepted because the factors do not have increased predictive value when they appear together, rather independently they are a cause for concern.
