Morning routines are sacred. The perfect cup of coffee. A light jog as the sun rises. How each day begins has an outsized impact on the hours that follow. For utility executives, especially those in the West, where wildfires are once again raging, their mornings begin with maps, forecasts, and data from one company in particular. Technosylva developed the wildfire risk prediction software now used by the utilities facing the highest risk of wildfires: PG&E, Southern California Edison, San Diego Gas & Electric, PacificCorp, and Xcel Energy. The company uses AI and machine learning to analyze weather, real-time fuel conditions, and utility assets at risk of igniting a fire. Utilities are using that information to coordinate public safety power shutoffs and inform power grid investments, like priority lines for undergrounding or vegetation management. Two utility executives recently told Technosylva CEO Bryan Spear that they begin their days analyzing the company's models, right alongside their first cup of coffee. "The first thing I do is ask my team, what are the models telling me?" the executive told Spear. Spear joined POWERGRID International to discuss his company's technology and utility wildfire mitigation strategies.
