Dear November 🍂🧶🕯️ creating inspiration to be on my phone less & create more this autumn & winter

November has arrived… with her darker, shorter days, filled with stormy weather. The wind & rain have come to stay a while it seems here in Portland. Each day they dance away more and more of the leaves off the trees, decorating the ground with their bright & bold colors. Each year I am in awe at the vibrancy & color palette the trees delight our eyes with & each year they fade away too quickly. November is the month of leaning into the darker, grayer days - finding a new rhythm & challenging myself to romanticize the earlier evenings. I’ve found myself really struggling with my phone lately, catching myself in the deep trance of doom scrolling my time away. And it’s a habit I’d really like to shift & change as winter approaches. I think more than ever during these darker, colder months I don’t want to be trapped int he overwhelm, anxiety & guilt my phone often induces within me & I’d rather prioritize my time doing things that enrich my creativity & my soul. I want to spend my time creating with my hands whether that be crafts, knitting, making collage mood boards or baking, trying new recipes, going for a walk, visiting a local bookstore, reading in cafe, filling up a sketchbook or capturing moments with my film camera. These tangible things & experiences are how I want to fill my days this winter. Actually creating a reality that I long for & continuing to romanticize the everyday & find beauty in the ordinary moments by living in the present & making memories & keepsakes I’ll treasure forever. Maybe you too feel the pull to be less on your screens & more present in your everyday. I encourage you to maybe write down a little list of a few things you’d like to do, experience & prioritize this winter that will fuel your creativity & nourish your soul.
