Marking Breath (2024) Singapore Sunrise to Sunset 5 April 2024, 7:03-19:11 Open wide symmetric architecture Like lungs Breathing Warm wind on my skin I breathe calmly Morning sky clear open My mind is empty Breathing into copper Breathing into being A man, a woman walks by with a cleaning gear The dirt away Beginning the day, a new New beginnings Can we? Students appear I’m calm Still Singapore My mind wanders Last Marking Breath was in Haifa Before the war Time changes quickly Francis comes walking Marking breathing mountains Inhalations exhalations A girl takes place She asks me a question I say yes She’s lost In her art I say little Today is breathing We breathe together No talking I advise her She asks me a last question ‘What has been your most important experience in life?’ Life itself ~ to breathe My answer She walks away I’m a stranger in this place and yet confident People confide in me.
