Russia facing public vote on Ukraine referendums at UNGA as bid for secret ballot rejected

The UN’s General Assembly voted on Mondayto reject Russia's call for the 193-member body to hold a secret ballot later this week. With 107 votes in favour, UNGA agreed to hold a public vote, rather than a secret one, on a draft resolution that condemns Moscow's annexation of four regions in Ukraine. Only 13 nations rejected a vote in public on the resolution draft, 39 nations abstained, and the rest did not take part in the vote. Russia had argued that Western lobbying meant that "it may be very difficult if positions are expressed publicly". According to diplomats, the resolution's voting will probably take place on Wednesday.
