Northern Territory Health Minister Natasha Fyles has apologised to passengers forced into quarantine after arriving in the territory on a flight from Sydney. Darwin Bureau Chief Matt Cunningham says the plane from Sydney arrived at Darwin airport at about 3:20pm on Sunday, yet at 3pm the same day, Acting Chief Minister Nicole Manison and Chief Health Officer Hugh Heggie announced the Greater Sydney region as well as the New South Wales Central Coast, Blue Mountains and Illawarra would be a hotpot, effective immediately. The announcement meant people coming off the flight would need to either return immediately to New South Wales or enter 14 days of mandatory hotel quarantine. “There’s plenty of people aboard that plane who are not happy about the situation,” Mr Cunningham said. Ms Fyles apologised for the disruption caused by the decision to force the travelers into quarantine, saying, “I apologise for that inconvenience, but we mustn’t give that virus a chance to get into the Northern Territory.”
