With 2025 marking the 40th anniversary of the Air Jordan 1, this project isn’t just about bringing an old sneaker back to life — it’s a celebration of four decades of one of the most ICONIC silhouettes in sneaker history. It all started with a $300 pair of heavily worn Breds Vick picked up last year. The collar on one of the shoes was completely warped, and the overall condition was rough — but the potential was undeniable. After a full deep clean using Reshoevn8r’s Essential Kit, Vick carefully deconstructed the sneakers down to their core: flattened panels, separated soles, every piece laid bare. What came next was a full rebuild, infused with creativity and homage. Rather than a straight restoration, Vick took it one step further — merging pieces from a pair of 1985 Royal Jordan 1s to create something entirely new: an '85 Union-inspired custom. Every detail was intentional. He revived the worn leather with hand-painted touch-ups, rebuilt the collar with fresh padding, and added modern touches like a brand-new sole, yellow Union stitching, and the signature UN/LA tag — all while retaining the soul of the original 1985 materials. This project took almost 50 hours to complete with hours of gluing, stitching, and precise craftsmanship to seamlessly blend old and new. The end result? A first-of-its-kind custom that bridges the gap between past and present, vintage and modern, restoration and design.
