Republican Ohio congressmember Dave Taylor said his office and the U.S. Capitol Police will investigate reports of an antisemitic symbol found at the desk of one of his staffers after a photo was shared with POLITICO. Politico on Wednesday said it obtained an image of an American Flag with red and white stripes altered in a way that made it appear to be a swastika, according to the news outlet. The image was taken during a virtual meeting and was reportedly pinned in the workspace of one of Taylor's employees, according to Politico. “I am aware of an image that appears to depict a vile and deeply inappropriate symbol near an employee in my office," Rep. Taylor said in a statement. " The content of that image does not reflect the values or standards of this office, my staff, or myself, and I condemn it in the strongest terms. Upon learning of this matter, I immediately directed a thorough investigation alongside Capitol Police, which remains ongoing. No further comment will be provided until it has been completed.” The revelation of the image came roughly a day after POLITICO analyzed seven months of messages from a group chat for young republican members from around the nation. The messages referenced slurs toward minority groups, discussed sexual assault, joked about the Holocaust, and praised Adolf Hitler, according to the reporting.
