For testing, educational, research, technical and entertainment purposes only. Everything was done on a dummy load. On Facebook, we call this amp porn. An amplifier shown with her covers off and showing her insides. Well, the Pride DX-300 is finished. I got it off Ebay with the Nomad LV and HV boards, but it was Golden Screwdrivered. Fortunately for me, they didn't screw anything major up. A mis wire here, a bad resistor there, a shorted diode or 2, and after getting all the golden screwdriver stuff out of it, away it went. We left the Ham Band stuff in it, and except for the Nomad Boards, the recommended Nomad upgrade mods, and I upped the HV capacitor bank from 100uf's to 220uf's, this amp is pretty much factory. Oh, one more thing. I moved the plate choke and plate HV components next to the tube over a bit. It gave the tube a little more room. This would only be needed if someone wanted to use an upgraded 8930 (4cx350) tube instead of the 4cx250B. The 8930 has a bigger anode, so to fit one of those in, the plate choke had to be moved over a tad. With the Nomad mods, it also has enough variable -Bias to run any of the 4cx250B family, the 4cx250R and the 8930. So, with it all cleaned up well and working well, I finally keyed it down. At first, I used my Icom 7300 but dialed way down. It worked, it did the watts, but the dead key was a lot higher and the swing was less. I do not like running tetrode (turbocharged) amps like that. I didn't have any Tram D201's ready so I dug out one of my all-time favorite transistor radios to drive it, the President George. I have had that George for decades and it has been done up good. Variable watts, lots of swing. The George also has one of the best transistor receivers that I know of too. It's noise limiting and adaptive squelch are great. I really wish President would come out with a big base version of their great mobiles. Anyway, with the George behind it, dead keying around 2 1/2 watts swinging to about 9 average and 20 peak, the Pride DX-300 is now walking and talking like I like. It is dead keying about 25 watts and swinging to about 350 Bird average and 700 peak. Everything works, I likkie this one. I give it a 9 on a 1-10. BTW, I am just showing, not selling. Peace.
