Welcome to Burning Questions. This video series is dedicated to exploring the tough questions and comments from educators and district administrators about testing, data, and the STAMP (STAndards-based Measurement of Proficiency) test. Carl Falsgraf, Co-Founder of Avant Assessment is joined by Victor Santos, Director of Assessment and Research at Avant Assessment to answer some of the Burning Questions we receive. This is a very common question Avant receives from Immersion educators who may not think the Avant STAMP test is right for their program because STAMP is only testing one aspect (proficiency) of their immersion program. Similar to Burning Question #1, the answer to this question boils down to what educators value in their immersion program. STAMP is a great way to measure real-world proficiency in a language, which means the ability to communicate with others in the target language in unrehearsed situations. It’s also only one piece to the “assessment ecosystem” puzzle, which is why it is still very important to cover different types of subjects (ex math, science, history). Having a one-size-fits-all test isn’t an effective method to test a student’s proficiency level or learning ability in each subject.
