Hi everyone! I have exciting news! I’m pregnant! Yes! It’s far enough along for us to have an ultrasound appointment! We actually thought we would still do the Trans-Vaginal Ultrasound (TVS) which they usually use for most women getting a Pap smear, cervical test, etc. Apparently, though, we’re far along enough for us to have a Trans-Abdominal Ultrasound. It’s a shame we didn’t get to document the TVS experience the last time because that was eye (and leg) opening! Still, we hope you enjoyed watching this video and it helps prepare you for when you decide to get checked in a hospital here as well. As a note, most professional staff here speak exclusively in Japanese so it’s very helpful if you can bring along a friend, relative or partner who can speak the language. They are very patient and would usually allow your companion to translate first before they proceed. We had the appointment with the doctor which we didn’t document but the discussion is the same for every doctor. You ask them questions and they’ll try their best to give their professional advice. In the end, we didn’t have to pay anything for the hospital services because the National Health Insurance system here in Japan helps cover for the cost. The City Hall actually gives new moms a copy of the Maternal and Child Health Care Handbook and a Coupon Book which you present every time you do a routine checkup. The Coupon Book helps offset the costs of some health services so it’s very helpful. Universal health care is very very helpful. That’s it for today and we hope you enjoyed the video!!
