Hurling's first Superstar, the legendary Mick Mackey of Ahane and his all-conquering Limerick team play an exhibition game against a local selection at Yankee Stadium, New York, during their groundbreaking tour of America in May 1936. Limerick would finish the year as National League, Munster and All Ireland hurling champions at the height of a period in hurling history known as the "Mackey-era" (the only era in Ireland's national sport to be named after just one man!). However, there were many other legends on that Limerick hurling team, such as Garrett Howard, Paddy Clohessy, Jackie Power, John Mackey (Mick's brother), Paddy Scanlon, Timmy Ryan, to mention but a few. This Limerick team brought a new glamour and acclaim to the game of hurling and attendances rocketed during the 1930s as people flocked from all over to see them play.
