At the end of May, we took our 1986 Laser 2 on a trip to Anna Maria Island. The video starts after we had already sailed 10 NM, beating into 15mph wind from Kingfish Boat Ramp to Bean Point on AMI. I forgot the memory cards in the bag and once we started sailing it was too late to try to record, but it was a rough but fun sail to get there. We camped on the boat with a tarp over the boom that night. Day 2: We sailed to Egmont Key (0:28) in dead wind with an average boat speed of 1-2 knots. It was very slow and my son even jumped off to see if he could swim faster than we were sailing. He could! We anchored and snorkeled off of the southern tip of Egmont Key until a tarpon fishing crew came to warn us of an eight-foot shark coming near us. We sailed further up to Battery Burchsted (0:43) off of Egmont and snorkeled and dove off the rocks for most of the day. By this time the wind had picked up and shifted back towards Anna Maria Island and it made for a fast sail back to Bean Point. Day 3: We spent most of the day snorkeling (1:33) around Bean Point (Anna Maria Island) and seeing how many sand dollars we could find. Later I decided to take the boat back out and solo sail (2:10) for about an hour, going a total of 4.2 NM with a max speed of 8 knots. I would have liked stronger wind for this sail, but it was fun and relaxing and a great way to end the trip. Subscribe to follow along as I post more sailing adventures ➤ / @aerial812
