My touring buddies Ally, Rishi and myself made the short trip up the A46 from Leicester to Lincoln this morning. Boultham park was a lovely little park, lots of wildlife and water fowl. It also backed onto the beautiful St. Helen’s church. 13th century, grade II listed, with graves of service personnel who died in Crimea. One of the oldest place of worship in Lincoln, other than the cathedral. You can get a beautiful view of the cathedral as you swing into the finish funnel, well worth a visit if you make a day of your visit to Lincoln parkrun. Our run director for the day was Andy. Getting very much into the festive spirit in a very bright Christmas suit. Andy gave us some very important reminders for this time of year, take the time to look out for one another, you never know who might be struggling. Something easy to overlook in all the festivities and merrymaking that goes on at Christmastime but parkrun is one fantastic community and I very much agree with Andy. I have made so many friends because of parkrun, people I know I could turn to if things went a bit wrong. It isn’t always about the running; it is also about the people you meet along the way. The run itself was pretty flat, it is Lincolnshire after all, they only have one hill and the built a cathedral on top of it. The route takes you around a lake, where a heron stood watching us. Then through a lovely, if narrow, woodland path, which I particularly liked. It is great for those participants, like me, who may feel less comfortable on a trail or off-road course. It is completely tarmac. 17 people took advantage of this flat course and managed to bag themselves a new PB just before Christmas, which means you can definitely enjoy a mince pie. First past the post was John Clifton – 19.03. First female home was Abigal Bagshaw in P7 with a time of 20.05 and a new PB. First junior was Chalie Dye in P19 with a time of 21:39 and a new PB. We also saw Jacob Skelland, Todd Pinhorn, Stuart Hill, Rob Fuller, Jonathan White, Kathering Lund, Steven Smith, Maria Karaolides, Izzy Young and, Helen Clarke complete their first ever parkrun. Welcome to your new Saturday morning routine. There were also several participants completing milestones Helen Woodley 25, Lewis Defraine 50, Alan Wright 100, David Godfrey and Katie Stark 250. Congratulations everyone. My favourite dog shout out must go to Kizzy the Basset hound with the zoomies, I hope he got a PB, he certainly looked as if he was running for one. Thanks as always to the volunteers for making parkrun the fabulous event that it is. Thank you, Lincoln, and Merry Christmas!
