Happy Christmas Day from Lincoln parkrun #495 – 25/12/2024 A record turnout of 670 people! Lincoln's speedie legend Matt Bowser was the first finisher in an incredible 15m34, and top of the Age Grading charts too with an astounding 88.33%. 2nd to finish was Jamie Swindale in 16m21 (79.71%). Alison Monaghan was 2nd Age Grader with 87.08%, and setting her Lincoln Boultham Park PB of 19m44: CONGRATS! REPORT: 670 ran, jogged and walked the course, of whom 95 were first timers and 64 recorded new Personal Bests. Representatives of 62 different clubs took part. What an amazing day, we smashed our attendance record, ran out of tokens… then learned a new method for when we run out of tokens, had a laugh, enjoyed a marvellous start to Christmas Day & helped to spread a bit of happiness. Katey and Sharon have given us our Christmas present by writing a couple of brilliant Run Reports. 1. Sharon: T’was the Lincoln parkrun at Christmas, and all round the park Hiviz heroes were setting up the course for once not in the dark. Arrows were hung and signs placed in the ground with care, In the hope that many parkrunners soon would be there. The runners were still nestled all snug in their beds, With visions of PBs dancing in their heads. With Andy as RD resplendent in white and blue, And volunteers decked resplendently in fluorescent pink hue. When on the outskirts of the park there rose such a clatter, Which broke up the volunteers who were having a natter. parkrunners were arriving from all round the counties, To happily claim their Christmas parkrun day bounties. Six hundred and seventy made their way round the course with glee, Sixty four of these so quickly they claimed a new PB. Sixty three had never been to Lincoln before, For nineteen their first parkrun, hopefully to follow plenty more. A Christmas Day milestone as around the course wondered, Matt on 500, Paul & Adam at 250, and Ian, Joanne, Sharon & Pat for one hundred! As into the finish funnel they did strive, 50 for Alan, Joe, Julie, Sharon, Albert, & Nicola, whilst for Michael, Helen, Emma, Rebecca and Donna their twenty five. A big thank you to the volunteer crew we surely all do pass, Hopefully post event to them you did raise a glass. For without volunteers parkrun on any day would not be, And who wants to be sat inside just watching Christmas Day TV Sharon 2. Katey: Christmas Day 2024 saw innumerable Santa's, a snowman, a few elves and a couple grinches take part in a festive run this Christmas morning. The weather was fine, the temperature was slightly brisk but the happy festive mood was in abundance. 7 of us from Rasen Running Club rocked up in festive attire to celebrate 3 different achievements - Julie completed her 50th parkrun, Pat her 100th and Adam a whopping 250th (along with several other locals achieving various milestones too). It was the first time Charlie and I have been to Lincoln since Doris at the Care Home has passed away and it was very odd not waving to her at the start. The RD (Andy J) gave a very informative briefing - I was impressed with the direction to support the local community this season - sharing out homes today to lonely neighbours, share extra gifts and food with those in need and reach out to the local amenities to offer support - parkrun is about the community of runners but also much wider than that. It's about giving, sharing, supporting and caring. parkrun has opened itself to so many friends of mine and provided support when needed, that paying it forward or giving back is important, and at this time of your, it's even more important. Thank you to everyone who has supported food banks etc this season. The volunteers were fantastic today - festively jolly and full of the seasons cheer at every bridge and corner - thank you so much for your time, the cheers and the support. The outfits were fantastic and the cheering was super loud! After the run, RRC had hot chocolate and mince pies at the band stand watching the remaining runners coming in and celebrating the achievements. Well done to the funnel manager for making sure it all went smoothly today!
