Happy “flat time between Christmas and New Year” from Lincoln parkrun With slightly less people [337] than our wonderfully crazy Christmas Day [670, a record!], a few words were said beforehand about our great friend, Jim Diamond, who sadly died earlier this year. Always supporting others, he built a bench, which now has his memory on it. So if you’re stretching your legs out towards, Moore Lane in Aubourn, please stop and have a rest on it and say hello to him from us. Also checkout this video from 2019. At 13m45 you will see Jim stopping at the end of a lap to give Doris a big wave in the Care Home: • Lincoln parkrun 2023/08/19 Last time We’ve also got a Run Report from Ella, one of our Duke of Edinburgh's, so I hope you enjoy her perspective of parkrun… Ella: Parkrun felt empty this week with 337 parkrunners compared to last weeks 670. The amazing morale and left-over christmas spirit made volunteering enjoyable and distracted us from the blistering cold. I've been coming to Lincoln Parkrun since I was 8, and for the first 5 years my mum had to drag me out of bed and 'force' me to run. Yet for the past 2-3 years I have grown to not only enjoy it but I have also come to realise that parkrun doesn't only improve my physical health but also my mental health and social skills as I now find it easier to make friends with other runners and the volunteers. Doing my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh at parkrun helped me see a new side to parkrun and rather than running (huffing and puffing) around the park, i began to volunteer, supporting the people who CAN run and enjoy it. I enjoyed volunteering so much that I'm now doing my Silver award with parkrun as well but in 5 weeks when I've finished this component i will carry on coming to parkrun to help volunteer and to run and keep active. Getting up on a Saturday morning and biking to parkrun sets me up for the weekend and puts me in a good mood whilst also giving something back to the community. Andy, Jim, Craig, Joanna, Mark, Gary, all of the runners and the rest of the volunteers make it so easy for everybody to feel like they have a place in parkrun whether you run, walk, volunteer or just come to watch.
