Another post for the Hack Golf Website. "Golf is a silly game with instruments ill suited for the purpose." - Winston Churchill What frustrates the blazes out of me is hearing on a daily basis from the golf culture around me, and specifically the golf teaching culture, that striking a golf ball is unbelievably difficult. According to modern golf instruction, it is an unbelievably complex feat of human bio-engineering. (Just read Homer Kelly's "The Golfing Machine" to find out just how complex it can be IF that is how you perceive it.) Really?!? The little ball is sitting perfectly still just begging to be hit! It's not speeding at you at 90 miles an hour like a fastball pitch or over 100 miles per hour like a tennis serve. With today's modern golf equipment technology, the specialized sticks we are using are highly engineered and perfectly suited for the purpose. (Winston Churchill's statement to the contrary was simply revealing of his ignorance of why the golf "instruments" look the way they do.) So why has it become so unbelievably complex to hit a stationary ball sitting still on the ground with a specially designed stick? See my comment below for the answer...
