Update: Rebuilding of the Hudson River / Livingston Ave. Swing Rail Bridge Rensselaer, NY My wife and I were back collecting Mullein along the rail lines near the Livingston Ave. ‘Swing’ Bridge (actually, my wife was doing the collecting). So, since it’s a few minutes’ walk I decided I’d go over and ‘take a gander’ at the area to see if anything significant had taken place. From my vantage point it didn’t look like any major progress had been accomplished. It seemed that more building material had been brought in, but no real construction. On the other hand, it was a busy place, with a number of trains, one of which was heading across the bridge and another using the bridge and ‘Troy Industrial Track’ to reverse direction of engine and cars either backing up into the station or eventually into the yard. Information on the current bridge can be found at a previous video: “The 1902 Hudson River “Turntable” Rail Bridge” [1] The new rail bridge will consist of a new seven-span, lift-type bridge and will be constructed just south of the existing bridge. It will also be wider and designed to carry heavier freight train loads, two passenger trains at the same time and be able to handle taller rail cars, and more reliably accommodate marine traffic on the River. There will also a crossing over the Hudson River for pedestrians and cyclists, providing easy connections to the Albany Skyway, the Empire State Trail, the future Rensselaer Riverwalk. [2] I hope you like the update on the bridge. It had only been a fortnight since the last time I had been there, and it didn’t look like anything significant had been done. However, I wasn’t disappointed by some of the other things I was able to see!
