The tangent function | Unit 1 and 2 VCE Maths Methods

As we continue to juggle face-to-face and online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, I will continue to record my lessons here on YouTube. My Year 11 VCE Mathematical Methods class have resumed Semester 2 by studying Circular Functions, a topic which will be new to most of the students. In this video, we revisit the tangent function, including its definition in the unit circle, from which we will establish its graph shape. We will then apply transformations to the basic tan graph in order to sketch other tan graphs. In addition, we consider the solution of equations involving the tan function. The class uses the Cambridge Senior Maths textbook for Unit 1 and 2 Mathematical Methods and the TI Nspire CAS CX / CXII calculator.
