Applications of circular functions | Unit 1 and 2 VCE Maths Methods

As we continue to juggle face-to-face and online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, I will continue to record my lessons here on YouTube. My Year 11 VCE Mathematical Methods class have resumed Semester 2 by studying Circular Functions, a topic which will be new to most of the students. In this video, we consider some application problems involving circular functions. There are many situations that can be modelled by circular functions including those with oscillating motion such as tides, sound waves, a pendulum or a child’s swing, or anything that moves with circular motion, such as a Ferris wheel, a foot on a bicycle pedal, a cog, etc. The class uses the Cambridge Senior Maths textbook for Unit 1 and 2 Mathematical Methods and the TI Nspire CAS CX / CXII calculator.
