DR. LINA ZEDRIGA GRANTED BAIL AFTER 40 DAYS BEHIND BARS:Court Dismisses State Objections

After spending 40 days behind bars, Dr. Lina Zedriga, the Deputy President of the National Unity Platform (NUP) for Northern Uganda, has been granted bail by the Gulu Chief Magistrate’s Court. The court released the 64-year-old political figure on a cash bail of one million shillings, despite strong objections from the State, which argued that her sureties were not substantial and raised concerns about possible interference with investigations. However, the presiding magistrate dismissed the prosecution’s claims as speculative and upheld the constitutional right to apply for bail. Dr. Zedriga is facing charges of inciting violence allegedly committed in December 2025 across parts of Northern Uganda, including Omoro, Nwoya, Amuru, and Gulu City. Her legal team welcomed the ruling, while NUP leaders criticized her arrest and detention, describing it as politically motivated. She is expected back in court on March 24 as the case continues.
