The Larkspur Fire Protection District has recently published a 5-year Strategic Plan – a product crafted by a group of your fellow citizens over the course of several months. This document provides a vision for the future of your Fire District. Our citizens committee constructed an easy-to-read product which identifies and discusses the strategic risks we face as we move forward over the next half-decade. While no document can accurately see the future with infallible precision or accuracy, this plan serves as a well-founded roadmap outlining how we will equip, train and staff our agency to protect your loved ones. As with any plan it will evolve and change over time as new information and data becomes available as we look to identify, understand and analyze our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. You’ll also find a video link that discusses the plan. Generally stated, the challenges and risks discussed in our strategic document is but one component of our path toward the future. How we financially stabilize our District’s revenue for our future is the other component. A discussion of one cannot proceed without the other. And while no decisions have been made at present, your elected board of directors is weighing whether to place a tax question, or questions, on the ballot this November. If the board does decide to place questions on the ballot, our revenue stabilization could be in the form of a mill levy increase, a bond issue, or a combination of the two. Our Board of Directors will not make that decision until sometime later this year, and only after hearing from our citizens. Over the next several months, we will provide and discuss more information regarding the threats and risks facing us as we move. Communicating with our voters about the risks facing your Fire District will continue, along with discussions regarding alternatives on how we may confront these challenges, and how we can move forward to better prepare our agency for its future. During the next months, we will be continually reaching out to gather the views and opinions of our voters and constituents, and we will invite questions and feedback. In this vein, we have already begun our outreach by providing presentations on the Strategic Plan to community groups and others so that we can strength our outreach efforts.
