The state of the sewers... There are moments when it's like a river flowing. Francisco Tiquilamoge. Sant'Egidio Community. The country of Mozambique has about 90 prisons. At the end of 2010 their total capacity was about 6,500, with over 15,300 prisoners behind bars. The prisoners are of various ages, though predominantly teenagers. The greatest challenge is overcrowding and the consequent lack of food and health care. Members of the Sant'Egidio community are of the few who visit, who gather funds, buy food, cook it and serve it to the prisoners. For the inmates, it is a simple sign of hope.
