Bentley Continental GT3-R hits the road

Bentley has launched its new Continental GT3-R – a road-going version of the manufacturer’s endurance race car. Lighter and more powerful than other road-going derivatives of the Continental GT, the GT3-R is limited to just 300 examples and each costs £237,500. It uses the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine as the regular Continental GT, but the GT3-R has tweaked turbos for an extra power boost and it weight 100kg less compared to standard versions. The eight-speed automatic transmission also runs shorter gearing and acceleration is bolstered further. Producing 572bhp, the GT3-R is not quite as powerful as the race car which it is based on but is still good for a 0-60mph sprint time of just 3.6 seconds. Its top speed is 170mph. Another difference with the GT3-R compared to other Bentley Continental GT road cars is that it gains torque vectoring for the rear wheels. Other changes include a titanium exhaust system, recalibrated software for the drivetrain and a more customisable electronic stability system.
