Old Banger! | M394 (GYE 394W) | MCW Metrobus Voith | Golders Green Vintage Bus Running Day

Something different today and much older than the usual lot of vehicles that feature this channel! On the 10th March 2024, North London Transport Events [NLTE] hosted a Vintage Bus Running Day focused around the Golders Green area and outwards. There were MCW Metrobuses, RTs, RMs & RMLs etc which served routes 13, 43, 102, 210 and 240. Here recorded is M394 (GYE 394W), an MCW Metrobus which was new to London Transport in October 1980 at Finchley Garage (FY), then transferring to Willesden Garage in 1991. Later in 1994, M394 was passed onto Metroline due to the privatisation of London Transport. Throughout it's time serving the public it could be seen on routes 26, 125, 263 and 52. I'm not really one who looks in the direction of older buses but I find it hard to turn my head from anything with a Voith gearbox! 🤣 And when I saw a little video of what it sounded like I couldn't resist! This bus sounds really nice all-round, especially whilst decelerating, with the lovely retarder whistling. Some points feature second gear holding quite nicely on gradients through Finchley & Mill Hill. (FYI, this is a 3-Speeder) Big thanks to the people who hosted this event as well as the owner of this vehicle. I appreciate the efforts made to make a memorable day out for people, especially those who favoured these buses in their childhood/youth days.
