In this episode of our mini-series, “Biblical Images of God Pt 7: Rock of Refuge,” Walking The Text founder Brad Gray takes us to one of Israel’s most awe-inspiring locations: Masada. We’ll explore one of the most comforting images of God woven throughout Scripture: God as a rock of refuge. In a world that runs at a frantic pace, many of us carry a constant undercurrent of anxiety, exhaustion, and hurry. We long for a deeper sense of stability and peace, for a place where our souls can breathe and rest. This ancient fortress overlooking the Dead Sea invites us into a sacred truth: what God was for David, He can be for us—firm, faithful, and immovable. We’ll trace the biblical language of “rock,” “fortress,” and “refuge” through the Psalms, Samuel, and the story of David, who may have found shelter at Masada while on the run from Saul. The Hebrew word metsudah, translated as “fortress” or “stronghold,” connects this very real location to David’s lived experience of God as a place of safety and strength. From Hannah’s prayer to the psalmist’s cry, the Scriptures consistently point us to a God who doesn’t just offer peace somewhere else, but here—right in the middle of our chaos and questions. Jesus echoes this same invitation in Matthew 11, offering rest to all who are weary and burdened. Whether your refuge is a cabin in the woods, a quiet moment on your porch, or simply a candle lit in the dark of your home office, the invitation is the same: to make space daily for the presence of God. Rest doesn’t come by accident. It’s something we must pursue with intention. So turn down the noise. Eliminate the distractions. And let the peace of God wash over your anxious heart. In “Biblical Images of God Pt 7: Rock of Refuge,” you’ll come to know God—not just as a concept, but as a dependable rock of refuge in your everyday life! https://bit.ly/biblicalimagesofgodpt7 Thanks for watching and hit that subscribe button!
