I devised this exercise when I was a few years into my guitar journey. I knew all 5 positions of the pentatonic but I found there were a lot of places on the fretboard where I'd run into "dead ends". The flow would come to a crashing halt and I'd have to figure out where the next position was. If you want to start seeing the pentatonic clearer all over the fretboard, I highly recommend practising this exercise. I'm seeing every string pair as forming a chain, with each 4 note group or cell, forming a 'link'' in that chain. Once you can know this exercise, you'll be on your way to knowing every possible permutation of getting from any one position to another. PDFs and backing track can be found on my Patreon.
