This documentary presents key findings from a research study titled “Indigenous Knowledge and Practices on Environment Conservation and Flood Disaster Mitigation in Dire Dawa Rural Kebeles.” The study focuses on the lived experiences and traditional wisdom of communities in Harla, Ijaneni, and Legebira kebeles. The documentary highlights how indigenous knowledge systems, including local environmental management practices, social institutions, beliefs, and community-based flood control mechanisms, have played a crucial role in conserving natural resources and mitigating flood risks over generations. It emphasizes the relevance of these practices in addressing current climate change-induced disasters and promoting sustainable, locally grounded solutions. The research was conducted by Synergy for Community Development (SCD), a civil society organization based in Dire Dawa, with financial support from the Climate Justice Impact Fund for Africa (CJIFA). Through community voices, expert insights, and field-based evidence, the documentary calls for recognition, documentation, and integration of indigenous knowledge into formal environmental conservation and flood disaster reduction policies and strategies.
