Welcome back, adventure enthusiasts! In this episode, I travel to Phoenix, Arizona, to gather all the essential gear and parts I need for my epic solo motorcycle trip from Argentina to Alaska on my KTM 390 Adventure. From off-road destinations to unique Arizona landscapes, this episode is packed with inspiration for motorcycle travelers and adventure seekers alike. The journey begins in Phoenix, where I pick up everything I ordered online and shipped to my younger brother’s house. From crash bars to camping gear, I reveal all the components that will transform my KTM 390 Adventure into the ultimate adventure machine. But first, I indulge in family time, complete with chicken fajitas cooked in bacon grease—because what’s an adventure without good food? I also explore some of Arizona’s hidden gems, starting with an off-road trip to Four Peaks in my brother’s newly built Baja Bug. The scenic trails and dirt roads make me wish I had my motorcycle with me! Then, we head to Tonto Bridge, a stunning destination nestled at 4,500 feet in the mountains. Unlike Arizona’s stereotypical deserts, this area features lush forests, lakes, and even wildlife—like coatimundis, or “desert monkeys,” that turn out to be raccoon relatives. The exploration continues with a visit to Willow Springs Lake in the Forest Lakes area. Traveling through pine forests and past serene lakes is a refreshing change from Arizona’s arid landscapes. Fun fact: over a quarter of Arizona is covered in forests! These spots are must-visit destinations for any adventure motorcyclist. But the adventure isn’t just about the places—it’s also about preparation. I faced a unique challenge: finding a durable sleeve for my laptop. Since I couldn’t find a suitable one online, I made my own! Using birch plywood, oak edges, and a walnut end cover, I crafted a custom case that’s both sturdy and lightweight. With the help of my comadre, who sewed a fabric bag for added protection, I now have a reliable solution for my long journey. As my time in Phoenix wraps up, I pack everything into three suitcases and say goodbye to my brother and his family. My journey takes me to San Luis, Arizona, where I visit my goddaughter and get a ride to Mexicali with her husband Ivan, stopping along the way for some mouthwatering tacos de pastor. From there, I fly back to Guadalajara, ready to start preparing my KTM 390 Adventure for the ultimate ride from Argentina to Alaska. Stay tuned for the next episode, where I’ll share all the gear I’ve gathered and show how I’m equipping my motorcycle for this epic journey.
