New Utah law targets illicit massage businesses, aims to curb human trafficking

Massage therapy businesses across Utah are preparing for new regulations set to take effect this spring as the state moves to crack down on illicit massage operations linked to human trafficking. A recent study estimates Utah has seen a 10% increase in illicit massage businesses statewide, with roughly 150 such locations currently operating. Earlier this month, two suspected illicit massage businesses were shut down in Cottonwood Heights. The new law, HB 278, will require all massage businesses to register through a Utah government licensing website.
