An additional component of this regular maintenance is always replacing the filter when you change the oil. The Pathfinder's oil filter is located under a splash guard, which makes it difficult to find. Step 1 Slide underneath the front of the car and remove the bolts from the splash guard located underneath the front bumper. Step 2 Put an oil drip pan underneath the oil filter to catch any oil that will drip. Step 3 Loosen the oil filter with an oil filter wrench. Turn the wrench counterclockwise. For a picture of where the oil filter is located, click on the link under "Resources" at the bottom of this page and go to page 276 of the Pathfinder owners manual. Step 4 Remove the oil filter by continuing to turn it counterclockwise by hand. Dispose of the oil filter in the oil drip pan and recycle it with the oil you drained from the Pathfinder.
