Though never a big seller in Australia, Alfa Romeo has been a niche but stable occupier of our roads from the second half of last century, aided by a migrant Italian population for whom the brand was often synonymous with objects of desire. Adelaide-based washing machine manufacturer Lightburn even assembled a very limited number of them on our shores in the mid-60s, while later in the decade they competed strongly at prominent races like the Hardie Ferodo 500 at Bathurst. The Alfa Romeo brand is one of the more polarising car marques. Though most can agree that Alfas tend to be stylish 'driver's cars' (motoring journalist Jeremy Clarkson famously stated that 'you can't be a true petrolhead until you've owned an Alfa'), others will quickly point to reliability and build quality issues of some of their models, like the infamous Alfasud. Step behind the wheel of this 1970 105 series 1750 GTV to see what all the fuss is about!
